Manifesto 2010
United We Stand: A Voluntary and Community Sector Manifesto for London's Children and Young People has been written by the London Child Policy Forum, a 15-strong coalition that includes major national charities such as Barnardo's, the NSPCC and Save the Children plus pan-London networks such as London Play and London Youth. Under the chairmanship of Children England, never before has such a range of voluntary and community groups come together with one voice to demand action from the capital's politicians.
Covering topics such as education, employment, health, sport and criminal justice, United We Stand is an authoritative call for collaboration. The evidence-based recommendations represent some of the crucial practical steps we can take to make London better for our successor generation.
The manifesto was launched in the House of Commons on 3 March 2010, speakers included Natascha Engel MP, Chair of the APPG for Youth Affairs, Cllr Nick Stanton OBE, Leader of Southwark Council and lead member for Children and Young People at London Councils and Nick Wilkie, Chief Executive of London Youth.
Maggie Jones, Chief Executive of Children England said of the manifesto
The development of this Manifesto is an impressive piece of partnership working which points the way for the future. We know lean times are ahead and we will all have to do more with less to support London's children and young people to grow and thrive in the years ahead. Working together, across sectors and traditional divides, making the very best use of resources to achieve truly shared objectives is the only way to ensure that we build a better future for young Londoners.
