Happy Monday readers ๐Ÿ˜Š

The first full week of January has already passed, is it just me or does New Years still feel like yesterday?

I hope some of you gained some inspiration from my reflections last week, and that inspiration has translated into increased productivity. If like me you’ve managed to do that last week, you’re well on the way to achieving consistency. We just have to keep it up together.

So let’s get back on schedule. Although last week I let you into the weird inner workings of Noori’s brain, this blog is usually here to provide you with some positive news stories to start your week off right, hopefully with a smile ๐Ÿ˜‰

Let’s get to it then! Without further ado, here is your small burst and weekly roundup of positive news to start your week as you mean to go on, ready to kick the world’s butt:

* Imagine you hired decorators and they told you that your business means that someone in greater need could have a job done completely free of charge... No need to imagine, meet the Good Guys Decorating! Cyle and Nick are two decorators who launched their business start up with a promise to help the community. As the Good Guys complete each job, a fund builds up to do work for those in need but unable to afford it, such as children living in poverty or those with mental health issues. Cyle and Nick grew up in poverty themselves; they understood how without guidance and the help they received from Carney’s Community, things could have turned another way for them. So they wanted to give back to their community, alongside helping people in similar positions in some way. Listen here to find out about their first ‘give back’.

* Awwwh, kids playing on the streets. Yes Dad in 2020! Pretty unheard of, right? I remember playing on the streets, learning to ride a bike with my neighbours and having picnics in the summer. I wouldn’t even dream of taking my 9-year old little sister off the pavement unless I looked both ways a good 84726 times. In all seriousness though, I wouldn’t. I’d guide her without blinking once to our park, walking past many ‘NO BALL GAMES’ signs. But Playing Out are here to change that through shutting down the streets and creating safe spaces for children. They began as 2 mothers on their street in Bristol, and after 8 years it has grown until a UK-wide movement involving over 800 street communities. But it doesn’t stop there - they also develop new ideas and push for discussions around children’s play and public space. Find out more at their website, including what’s going on in your area and what more could be done.

* Free CV advice from HR professionals available from the Young Women's Trust –Have you seen a job advert that you just know you would boss but your CV is out of date? Have you been complaining for all of 2019 about your job and ready to stop complaining and start acting in 2020? Look no further! Work It Out is a free service that offers support for women aged 18 – 30 to help build skills, strengthen your mental health and open up opportunities for your future. They would particularly like to work with women who are living on low or no pay, carers, care leavers, have few or no qualifications or have a disability. Find out more here.
