Stephen has been the Chief Executive of children's mental health charity Childhood First since 2004, pioneering developments in psychotherapeutic work with seriously disturbed children.  He’s the current Chair of the UK Council for Psychotherapists College of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapies. He’s also the founder of the Institute of Integrated Systemic Therapy and founder of the Residential Child Care Chief Executive’s Group. 

Stephen has thirty-five years’ charity governance and senior management experience, working in health, social care, education and international development in SE Asia, southern Africa and the Caribbean.  He is a specialist in strategic innovation, corporate turnaround, risk and complexity in charities and the voluntary sector.  In earlier life, he was a Cambridge don, theologian and philosopher who co-founded and ran the Underground University in these banned subjects in communist Prague, which played a part in the 1989 ‘Velvet Revolution’.
