I hope you have all been keeping safe and making the most of our current situation.

As the lockdown continues with children still not returning to schools until June 1^st at the earliest (date subject to change) and a half-term week around the corner, you may have got to a point where you might be looking for new sources of education or entertainment for the younger ones in the family. If this is the case in your household, then fear not, as Make the Most of Monday is here to provide you with some more resources to keep them busy.

So without further ado, here are some positive ideas to start your week as you mean to go on, making the most of Monday: 

 

Subscribe to The Week Junior: This is an amazing current affairs magazine written specifically for 8–14-year olds. Not only is it entertaining with great stories and puzzles, but also educational through providing context and clarity to complex issues. This aids children in improving their general knowledge and encourages discussion and debate. It’s delivered weekly providing you a way to regularly engage curious young minds.

I subscribed my 9-year-old sister to the magazine as she was finding it difficult to understand news outlets and wanted to better understand what was going on in the world in these strange times. Now she waits for the postman at the door every Friday! If you are interested, you can get a 6-week free trial (Please remember to cancel after 6 weeks if you do not wish to be charged).

Stay At Home activity pack from Unique Voice: This is a creative activity pack with 30 different activities to engage your young people requiring as few resources as possible. The activities range from arts and crafts to drama exercises, with some activities that can be incorporated into a child’s home learning experience too. My personal favourite is creating a snow-globe which I can’t wait to do with my little sister during half-term. 

Learning at home from the London Curriculum: This is a webpage full of free learning opportunities and creative offers that children can access from home. Activities can be filtered by age range, subject, key stage and organisation to find exactly what you need. And best of all, organisations have provided an estimate level of adult supervision required. Great for when you’ve got your weekly conference call. Although these are London-specific offers, anyone in the country can access them and get a feel for the capital city from your home wherever you are.
